BUILD FOR HEALTH & COMFORT

At Jarrod Olsen & Co we lead by example by making sure all our new builds meet the international Passive House standard. The Southern Highland’s climate naturally leans itself towards building homes with a higher quality building envelope (thicker walls, more insulation & triple glazed windows) to make it a quality home. When designing and building a Certified Passive House we ensure that we are building a home with not just a building envelope of the highest quality but also a house that functions well and gives you the most comfortable indoor climate and the healthiest indoor environment you can live in. The main reason to build a Certified Passive House is really for your comfort and health but it also gives you the added benefit of reducing the need for heating and cooling infrastructure which makes it a sustainable investment.

The Passive House Robertson

Jarrod Olsen & Co are passionate about educating the local community about the benefits of building and living in a certified Passive House. Most people do not know what a certified passive house is and many who think they do know what it is commonly mix it up with a house built using a solar passive design, but that is NOT the same thing as a certified Passive House.

In short the Passive House principles/methodology is underpinned by five key components relating to how a house is designed and built;

  • Thermal insulation
  • High-performance windows and doors
  • Elimination of thermal bridges
  • Air-tightness
  • Heat recovery ventilation

Once a house has been designed and built to the Passive House Standard it can also be tested and verified through a certification process, which ultimately gives the house the seal of quality approval. In essence, a house built to this standard gives you a high performing building envelope and the most comfortable and healthy living environment for the lifetime of the building by using minimal additional technology.

Making the investment to build a certified Passive House can circumvent the initial expense of installing heating and cooling systems and reduces energy costs in the long term. A house built to the Passive House standard is very energy efficient and sustainable, but the biggest benefit to the homeowner is the comfort of the home. Once you have discovered the comfort of living in a Passive House, you will not want anything else.

THE PASSIVE HOUSE – Is the name our clients have suitably given their certified passive house development that Jarrod Olsen & Co had the privilege to build on their property at Robertson. This bespoke development was completed in 2022 and was the first Passive House development in the Southern Highlands to be certified to meet the International Passive House Standard. Here is a video of THE PASSIVE HOUSE, produced by our local council, showcasing this bespoke and sustainably built home.
